Watchdog head says tests of Runet law equipment to end in mid-Oct

SOCHI, Sep 24 (PRIME) -- Russian connection operators have started installing equipment on their networks under the law on sustainable work of the local Internet, the Runet, and tests will last from late September to mid-October, head of the communications service Alexander Zharov told reporters on Tuesday.

“We’ll test (the equipment), as we’ve always said, in close partnership with connection operations with caution. It means we’ll make a technical check first whether it impacts traffic or not and whether all services work or not. Then we’ll test it in a combat mode. Everything goes well so far,” Zharov said, adding that the project will be carried out in an unnamed region.

Zharov said he will tell about results of the experiment in mid-October.

President Vladimir Putin signed the law on the sustainable Runet in May to secure the Internet in case of a threat from abroad.
